Trivia:
The movie's hoaxed interviews have angered the families of real missing persons in and around Nome, Alaska, for trivializing their loss. Melanie Edwards, Vice President of Kawerak Inc (an organization representing tribal peoples in Alaska) described the movie as "insensitive to family members of people who have gone missing in Nome over the years". Universal has refused to discuss the movie with that organization or with local journalists. moreFAQ

I was given a pass to see a sneak preview of THE FOURTH KIND last week and have not stopped thinking about it since. The trailer has been everywhere in the past few weeks so I went in with some knowledge about the movie; I knew roughly about the subject matter (abduction), and that it was told using both found and re-created footage. Knowing this much, I thought I knew what I was in for. I didn't. The movie is much more terrifying than I had imagined. It's not just about abduction itself, but about the effect on the victims' life afterward, the feeling of having your autonomy taken by something larger than yourself. The movie stays with you, nagging constantly, making you look over your shoulder, keeping you up at night.
Just . . . really compelling, ambitious, and VERY scary.
