Trivia:
Spike Jonze was approached by Maurice Sendak and was asked to take on the film adaptation. A movie had been on the burner since the early 90s, and Mr. Sendak had not been able to find anyone fitting to take it on.

Goofs:
Revealing mistakes: In the early scenes in which Max is outside playing in the snow there are leaves on the trees and roses in bloom. You can't see his breath in the air and it doesn't fog the window. If you look closely in some shots you can see a light fog in the air created by the cold manufactured snow on a warm day.

i took 4 boys aged 5-10 and they all wanted to leave. my 5 year old was scared and my nine y/o and his 2 10 year old friends kept whining that it was strange. i sat through all the whining because i loved this film. i watched in awe as each of max's personality traits were made into strange and wonderful beasts that i could relate to, that made me empathize with a kid and his emotional confusion.
i haven't read the book since i was a child(many moons ago) and don't know if the movie follows the original so i'll thank both the author and spike jones for a strange and wonderful night at the movies. oh yeah, i'll be taking the misses next week sans kids. good job!
