Brett Ratner About Ready to Visit Conan's Cimmeria

9 November 2008 8:49 AM, PST | From Comicmix.com | See recent Comicmix news

After expressing interest in directing everything from the an adaptation of Valiant’s Harbinger to a feature film based on Guitar Hero, director Brett Ratner has finally chosen his next projects.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Rater is about to sign a deal to direct a new Conan the Barbarian film.  The film will be co-produced by Nu Image/Millennium and Lionsgate Films. Conan was the subject of two films starring Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 1980s and has been a frequent candidate for additional features ever since but the rights went from studio to studio with no traction.  John Milius, who cowrote the first film with Oliver Stone, has had a much admired King Conan script in development for years now.

Fans of Axel Foley can rest assured that the fourth film in the Beverly Hills Cop series is still likely to hit the cameras first for Paramount Pictures. Screenwriters

Conan The Destroyed?

20 October 2008 3:02 PM, PDT | From ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news

It was rumored, but many didn’t want to believe it. Now if Ain’t It Cool can be believed it’s fact.

He’s one of the most divisive directors in the fanboy community, and famous for his multiple attachments to possible projects that never see the light of day.

However it now looks like Brett Ratner will be directing Conan!

Moriarty (aka Drew Mc Weeny) got an email from a scooper who apparently made a very persuasive case to suggest that Mr. Ratner would indeed be helming the new Conan film for Lionsgate.

This news broke last month at Dread Central, but considering that Ratner’s name is attached to almost every film in development (and some which are not) it looked like a false alarm. Conan has been in development now for about a decade with everyone from John Milius to The Wachowskis attached to the project

Breaking: Brett Ratner to Kill 'Conan'

17 October 2008 8:52 AM, PDT | From Comicmix.com | See recent Comicmix news

Brett Ratner has unsheathed his cinematic broadsword to impale the tender teat of the much beloved barbarian, Conan.

Ain't It Cool News reports that "it appears to be official that Brett Ratner is directing [Conan]." According to the Web site, the film's scribe Howard McCain (Outlander) "had some big plans for how to structure the film," drawing inspirations from the original Robert Howard stories rather than the John Milius directed Conan the Barbarian.

"I could tell the material was in the right hands," says AICN's Moriarty of McCain after the two met earlier this year. But with the news of Ratner's involvement, Moriarty describes his excitement level as falling "through the floor."

"Oh, Brett... why do you want to hurt me? Why do you want to make this movie?" writes Moriarty. "Please, please, please tell me it’s because you have a genuine passion for the material and not just because

Dirk Blackman and Howard McCain have been hired to redraft the script for Lionsgate's barbarian epic Conan. The film is based on Robert E. Howard's pulp creation from the 1930s. John Milius directed 1982's violent adaptation Conan The Barbarian with Arnold Schwarzenegger as the eponymous warrior. Fredrik Malmberg, Boaz Davidson, Joe Gatta and Avi Lerner will produce the film. Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer (Sahara) wrote an older version of the screenplay. Carl Ellsworth to pen ‘Red Dawn’ remake

9 July 2008 7:55 AM, PDT | From screeninglog.com | See recent screeninglog news

Screenwriter Carl Ellsworth is set to pen the remake of John Milius’ 1984 war drama “Red Dawn,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Dan Bradley, second unit director on “Spider-Man 3” and “Quantum of Solace,” will direct the film for MGM.

In the original, a group of teenagers gather to defend their town after the Soviet Union and Cuba invade the United States.

Ellsworth said the new version of “Red Dawn” is going to be very intense, reflecting the fears of people living in a post-9/11 world.

Ellsworth’s writing credits include Wes Craven’s “Red Eye” and D.J. Caruso’s “Disturbia.” He also penned the screenplay for Dennis Iliadis’ upcoming horror thriller “The Last House on the Left.”
